The Porn Epidemic

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There is an epidemic in our society today. It is corroding the minds of men, women, boys, and girls throughout our nation and in the Western Civilization. It is especially bad in America. We are talking about the porn epidemic.

The Porn Epedemic

The Porn epidemic is so widespread that the numbers are absolutely staggering as to the use of it. Here are some of the stats. (No matter which set of statistics that you use, the numbers become overwhelming). There is nothing that we have ever seen that has eroded society in our recent history, like this porn epidemic.

General Porn Statistics

  • Every second, 28,258 users are watching porn on the internet with $3,075.64 being spent and 372 people typing in adult.
  • 40 million American’s regularly use porn sites
  • 35% of all downloads and 25% of all search engine queries (68 million a day) are for porn
  • 2/3’s are men and 1/3 are women searching the internet for porn
  • Pornography increases the marital infidelity rate by 300%
  • 56% of divorces have at least one person obsessed with porn in the relationship

Youth Porn Statistics

  • 11 is the average age of first exposure to internet porn
  • In one study, 28% of teens have sent a sext (A text message with sexual content)
  • Approximately 23% of parents have rules of what kids can do on computers or mobile devices.

There is a mountain of statistics for this porn epidemic. Among the statistics are some that even point to there being links to physical, mental, and behavioral problems that happen when porn is used.

A Biblical Perspective

It’s interesting that Jesus pointed out that adultery began in the heart. As we look at the statistics for divorces and links to pornography, it supports Jesus’ words (not that He needed us to). He stated that if we looked upon a woman and lusted that it was as if we had committed adultery.

He drew a clear link between our eyes and what we looked at and our heart and intentions. It is clear that our intent can defile us as much as the actual action. The added problem of lust or in this case, pornography is that it is often a secret until it is too late.
