Our Identity

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Our identity is a topic that many are discussing today. It seems that many are confused as to who they are. Many do not seem comfortable in their own skins. Let’s look at what God says our identity is.

Our Identity

Teenage years are an awkward time. I experimented with many things as I was growing up. My ultimate search was looking for truth and who I was.  As I struggled in looking for my identity, I was confused at times and often made the wrong decisions.

Many today are just as confused. As a society, we have lost our foundation. Truth seems to be at a premium and it is difficult to know who is telling the truth.  When truth is lost, so is identity.

Our foundation for truth and our identity are found in the same place. It is no doubt that because our society has, as a whole, moved away from biblical foundations that we find ourselves with an identity crisis.

Our Identity In God

We are made in the image of God. We are the only living things made by God that were to be like Him.

Think about what this means for your life. If we want to be like someone, we imitate what they do and say. We will go as far as to dress like them and pickup the same habits as them. We want to be like them.

If we are made in the image of God, we are then reflections of who He is.  We should want to be like Him.

Our Identity In Jesus

We are new creations in Christ. That means our past is not our future. If we have made mistakes, it doesn’t define us for the future.

We can change! It is very hard for people to change habits and who they are.

In Christ, we not only can change, we do change. Jesus calls it being born again.

When we are born, there is no past mistakes, there is only a future.

When we are born new in Christ, there is only the future that we have in Him. Our new identity is found in Who Jesus is.

As our society tries to define a new reality without Christ. We know who we are. Let us share the love that is in Jesus. They will know us by our love.

In what way can we show our identity in Christ to those around us?
